Press Release

Day off on November 3rd

The Government has decided to grant the day off on 3rd of November, 2016, to all employees and agents of ministries, departments and State agencies including all State institutes and other Bodies.

This decision is based on Law no. 10/2005, of August 10th, which determines the national holidays, the official commemorative dates and the rules for days off. Among the official commemorative dates are November 1st and 2nd, All Saints Day and All Souls Day, respectively. These solemn days have great significance for the Christian community, which, following a catholic tradition that dates back to the 2nd century, visit the tombs of the martyrs and all their loved ones.

Taking into account the trips to the municipalities to fulfil this tradition, the Government decided to grant the 3rd of November as a day off, in order to allow time for people to return to their place of residence. ENDS
