Timor-Leste hosted ITIE from Mozambique

Timor-Leste hosted, on July 29th, a delegation from the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) from Mozambique, which visit aimed to share experiences with the EITI of Timor-Leste, aiming the implementation of the new standards of this Initiative. Timor-Leste is a young nation, and is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and already holds a wide experience on the implementation of the principles of TIoEE.

The delegation included the national coordinators of EITI from Mozambique: Milagre Celestino Langa, Alice Tibana, Hélder dos Santos Sindique, Vilela de Sousa and Camilo Nhancale.

During his visit to Timor-Leste, the coordinator for the Secretariat of the EITI of Mozambique and his delegation held a meeting with the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the National Directorate for Petroleum and Mineral Revenues from the Ministry of Finance, some entrepreneurs, civil society, Commission of the Advisory Council of the Petroleum Fund (KKFP), TIMOR GAP and some Non-Governmental Organizations. Apart from these meetings, they also visited the Projects of KAITEU and of the Heavy Oil in Hera.

The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Alfredo Pires, who also holds the position of member of the Council representing the Asia-Pacific region, expressed his gratitude for the presence of this international delegation from the EITI: “It is with much gratitude that Timor-Leste hosts the delegation of EITI from Mozambique, in order to share their experience on the process for the implementation of the principles from the Initiative. This sharing highlights, once again, the fact of our nation being a reference to other nations. Timor-Leste is prepared to support other nations that also want to implement those principles of good governance in the area of natural resources. Apart from that, and taking into account that Timor-Leste is, currently, chairing CPLP, we are delighted in cooperating with the member States, as it is the case of Mozambique”.

The delegation from Mozambique also established contacts with local communities, disclosing the impacts and benefits of the methods of the EITI.

The delegation from Mozambique concluded its visit to Timor-Leste on August 2nd.
