Launching of the Program “Zero Hunger Challenge” in Timor-Leste

The international program “Zero Hunger Challenge” was launched in Timor-Leste, on January 9th, by the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.

The program was launched at the National Parliament, upon the official visit of Her Royal Highness, the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn from the Kingdom of Thailand, accompanied by the United Nations’ Under-Secretary-General, the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Committee for Asia and Pacific and the United Nations Special Advisor for Timor-Leste, Dr. Noeleen Heyzer.

“Zero Hunger Challenge” is coordinated by the United Nations and has with the support of the United Nations’ Economic and Social Committee for Asia and Pacific and the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization. The main goal is to defend the right to good nutritionand ensuring that food systems are sustainable and solid.

The program was launched in Bangkok, in 2013, under the presence of the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, upon his official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand. This Thursday, the Head of Government, accompanied by Her Royal Highness, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and by Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, officially launch “Zero Hunger Challenge” in Timor-Leste.
