Press Release

Timor-Leste receives a new batch of passports, and the Ministry of Justice launches an online appointment system for passport requests

On January 15th, 2024, a second shipment of passport booklets, totaling 20,660 units of all four passport types, was received. The arrival of an additional 16,000 units is also expected on the upcoming day, January 19th, with the remaining shipments anticipated to arrive in the coming weeks, completing the total of 57,102 booklets required for consumption in the year 2024.

The acquisition process for an additional 20,000 booklet units for the current year is currently underway through an addendum to the contract with the supplier. This ensures that the passport issuance to citizens will return to normal.

The Ministry of Justice also aims to initiate a new procurement process immediately to acquire 150,000 more passport booklet units for consumption in the upcoming years.

Additionally, on January 18, 2024, the Ministry of Justice, through the Directorate-General of Registration and Notary Services, will launch an online appointment scheduling application for passport issuance. This aims to ensure greater efficiency and effectiveness in services while avoiding crowds at service locations. END
