Statement on the situation in Myanmar
The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta held a meeting today in his office with the President of the National Parliament, Members of Commission B, and the Prime Minister to discuss the dramatic worsening situation in Myanmar.
The Timorese leaders reviewed the unanimous statement issued by the ASEAN Presidency and the unanimous resolution of UNSC concerning the tragic and arbitrary execution of four Myanmar civilian democracy supporters. The Timorese leaders present commended the position taken by ASEAN leaders and the UNSC and fully endorse these two statements.
Timor-Leste further appeals to the international community to continue to undertake every effort to contribute to the return of the democratic order through dialogue with all parties. ENDS
