The Government of Timor-Leste extends condolences for the loss of “Renan Selak”

It is with deep sadness and dismay that the Government of Timor-Leste became aware of the death of Faustino dos Santos “Renan Selak”, veteran of the National Liberation and former Member of the National Parliament, on September 10th, 2020, in Dili, at 63 years old.

Faustino dos Santos “Renan Selak” was born on May 1st, 1957, in Sub-village (aldeia) of Ira-Ara, Village (suco) of Fuiloro, Administrative Post of Lospalos, Municipality of Lautém. He fought for 24 years for the independence of Timor Leste and was as Secretary of Region I, on the Eastern Tip. He was Vice-President of the UNDERTIM Party and member of the National Parliament, during the second parliamentary term, from 2007 to 2012.

In 2017 he was appointed as the President of  the National Liberation Combatants Council, for Lautém Municipality, and in January 2020, he was appointed as Vice-President of the National Liberation Combatants Council, during the National Congress.

In 2018 he was awarded by the President of Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, with the Order of Timor-Leste Medal, in recognition of merit and contribution of his action in support of the Timorese and the country.

The Spokesperson of the Government, Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, on behalf of the Council of Ministers and the entire Government, present their most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the honourable “Renan  Selak” and stated that “we mourn his death, but we remember and honour his legacy of an unconditional dedicated life to the country and the Timorese”.
