PCM meets with the Working Group for the Development Project of the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport

The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães and the Working Group for the project of requalification of the International Airport President Nicolau Lobato, met on June 30, at the Government Palace in Dili.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Working Group, José Abel and the other members, took a look back at the various phases of the project, from the beginning to the present, and presented the master plan prepared by the Working Group which includes the various technical options for implementing the project and its social, financial, legal and environmental impacts. The support of the various partner entities for the implementation of the project was also addressed.

The project foresees the extension of the runway, a new control tower, the requalification of the passenger terminal and improvements to the access routes to the airport.

This Working Group was created on May 24, 2019 by the Interministerial Commission for the negotiation of financial support for the requalification of Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport, to fulfill the commitment of the Eight Constitutional Government to implement improvements at Dili Airport. It also aims to ensure the coordination of all the negotiation interventions of the various government departments, within the framework of negotiating support from various partner entities with a view to implementing the project.

The Working Group is composed of representatives of relevant Ministries and is responsible for making technical decisions and recommendations to the Interministerial Commission on the development of the project. This working group is also responsible for ensuring that all technical, social, financial and legal requirements are strictly met, ensuring coordination with all entities involved to achieve the expectations and requirements of the Government for the requalification of the airport.
