Promoting sandalwood planting

The Directorate General of Forests, Coffee and Industrial Plants from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is responsible for the launch of sandalwood planting, an emblematic national plant.
Given its high economic value, the Council of Ministers adopted, in November 2015, a resolution that promotes sandalwood planting activities in order to regulate its exploitation.
This plant has several usages, including ecological, historical, economic, cultural, therapeutic, and even of worship. That is why, within the policy of forest protection, sandalwood was given priority production.
The initiative begins at 8h00 and will have the presence of the Prime Minister, Rui Maria de Araujo, and the Minister of State, Coordinator of Economic Affairs and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Estanislau da Silva.
