Prime Minister’s Official Visit to Singapore and Philippines

From May 31 to June 2, The Prime Minister of of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, participates in the “Shangri-la Defense Dialogue”, in Singapore. This event is held annually and brings together Defense Ministers, personnel and experts to discuss and debate issues on security and defense in a regional and global context.
Prime Minister will deliver a speech on “'Defending National Interests: Preventing Conflict”.
The Prime Minister will be joined at this event by the Secretary of State for Defense, Júlio Tomás Pinto and Major-General Lere Anan Timur, Chief of F-FDTL.

At the invitation of the Government of Singapore, the Prime Minister will be undertaking an official visit to Singapore from 3 to 5 of June. During the visit, the Prime Minister will have a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, His Excellency Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who will host an official dinner in honor of His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão. The Prime Minister will pay a courtesy call on the President of Singapore, His Excellency Tony Tan Keng Yam.
The Timorese delegation to this visit also include several members of the Government such as the Minister of State and of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Minister of Finance, Minister of Transport and Communications, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Secretary of State for Defence and Secretary of State for ASEAN Affairs. A MoU on Air Services will be signed between the Timor-Leste Minister of Transport and Communications (on behalf of RDTL) and the Singapore Government.
The PM will deliver a lecture at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies on “Timor-Leste’s Role and Future in the Asia-Pacific” and another one at the Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy on “Peace building and State building: From fragility to resilience”.
On the last day of his visit, the Prime Minister will deliver a keynote address at the Thomson Reuters Asia Petroleum Lunch before flying off to Manila for his official visit to the Philippines.
The Philippines

At the invitation of His Excellency Benigno Aquino III, President of the Republic of the Philippines, the Prime Minister will conduct an official visit to Manila, from June 5 to 9. The Timorese delegation also includes the Minister of State and of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Minister of Finance, Minister of Education, Minister of Trade, Industry and Environment, Minister of Public Works, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Minister of Tourism and Secretary of State for ASEAN Affairs.
On June 6, the Prime-Minister will pay a courtesy call on His Excellency President of the Republic of the Philippines, where he will hand over a donation of Timor-Leste to the victims of the Typhoon Pablo followed by an expanded bilateral meeting where the following MoUs will be signed:
1. MoU on "Policy Consultation", between Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of RDTL and the Department of Foreign Affairs of Philippines;
2. MoU between the Ministry of Education of RDTL and the Philippine Normal University;
3. MoU on Public Works in areas of “Infrastructure Planning, Quality Control and Maintenance”, between the Ministry of Public Works of RDTL and the Department of Public Works and Highways of the Republic of the Philippines.
After the signing, His Excellency the President will host an official luncheon in honor of the PM.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will deliver a lecture at the University of the Philippines on “Peace and Reconciliation: Timor-Leste experience”. He will meet with Timorese students and also have an opportunity to address potential investors. The PM will visit sites of interest to Timor-Leste’s development such as the Water Treatment Plant and the Subic Exclusive Development Zone.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Dili on 11 June.

These visits are part of the Prime Minister's tour this year of ASEAN countries. His first official visit was to Thailand in April. The purpose of these visits is to strengthen Timor-Leste's relationships with its regional partners.
