Celebration of the 70 Years of the People's Republic of China

The Minister of State of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Agio Pereira, participated on September 26 in the commemoration ceremony of the anniversary of the People's Republic of China, which this 1st of October completes 70 years since its founding.

At this ceremony, organized by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Timor-Leste, Members of the Government and of the National Parliament, Heads of Missions in Timor-Leste and Members of the Diplomatic Corps joined the Chinese community in Timor-Leste to celebrate the 70 years of the founding of the most populous country in the world.

In his speech, the Minister of State congratulated, on behalf of the Government, the People's Republic of China for its anniversary and priased "all the great achievements and development achieved" by this nation.

The Minister recalled the "excellent bilateral relationship" between the two countries, "with a spirit based on the principle of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit", stressing "China's cooperation in the education sector" which allows the "granting of scholarships to Timorese students to study in Chinese universities and all academic and scientific exchanges” and contributes “to a greater technical and scientific qualification of many young Timorese, accelerating the social and economic development of country".

Agio Pereira, also took the opportunity of "to highlight the contribution of Chinese companies and citizens to the national development of Timor-Leste" and stated that "the bilateral relationship between Timor-Leste and China is very strong," adding that "there is a potential to further enhance this cooperation in areas such as investment, oil, agriculture and fisheries".
