A march in Dili, on June 29th, celebrated LGBT Pride Day (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite, Transsexual and Transgender people). The Prime Minister, Rui Maria de Araújo, made a point of sending a message on non-discrimination of young people of different sexual orientations.

“Discrimination, disrespect and abuse towards people because of their sexual orientation or gender identity does not provide any benefit to our nation,” warned the Prime Minister. “Despite this, many people continue to experience discrimination. Young people are experiencing violence, sometimes from within their own homes.”
