E-Governance and administrative modernization training support

From 31 Out until 25 Nov

Place: University of Minho

The main goal of the Support to Improve the Quality and Proximity of Public Services in the PALOP and Timor-Leste Project (Portuguese acronym PASP PALOP-TL), delegated by the European Union to the Portuguese partners is to bring citizens closer to Public Administration, by developing e-governance and administrative modernization.

To this end, the University of Minho, in partnership with the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV), has designed a training plan for the Cross-Sectional Training component of that project.

This action includes 24 trainees from the African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP) and Timor-Leste, which will take a leading role in the implementation of national projects in the field of Electronic Governance (e-gov) and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and in the design of their countries National Action Plans.

The trainees will attend training sessions, complemented by Seminars and relevant case studies, given by personalities from the University and the Portuguese Public Administration. There will be Seminars organized by UNU-EGOV and weekly sessions of “Conversations at dinner”, in which, during a dinner party with trainees and teachers, there will be a lecture by a guest speaker.

From Timor-Leste, the trainees attending this training are as follows:
- Elizabeth Baptista (PASP Focal Point, Presidency of the Council of Ministers)
- João Dias (Advisor to the ICT, Presidency of the Council of Ministers)
- Paulo Costa (ICT Head of Department, Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications)
- Mário Ximenes (ICT Department Member, National Directorate for Registration and Notary, Ministry of Justice)
