Government delivers on infrastructure
The recent inauguration of the Eduardo Ximenes Regional Hospital in Baucau and opening of the main building the National Electoral Commission in Dili, has seen the completion of two important infrastructure projects needed to support the delivery of essential services in Timor-Leste.
The Regional Hospital, named after the Vice Minister of Health of the Unilateral Government of 1975, will serve the municipality of Bacau and the surrounding municipalities including Viqueque, Manatuto and Lautem. During the opening ceremony on the 20th of January, Vice Minister of Health, H.E. Ana Isabel Soares emphasized the Government’s ongoing commitment to support the hospital’s differentiated services for prevention and treatment, diagnosis and therapy, and hospitalization and emergency. The hospital currently has 227 staff including 25 doctors and specialists, 98 nurses and 22 midwives. Thirteen members of staff are members of the Cuban Medical Brigade.
Also officially opened this year, the main building of the National Electoral Commission [CNE] will provide an appropriate space for the important work of the Commission in overseeing the upcoming elections. The building, inaugurated on the 28th of January by the Prime Minister, H.E. Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo, the Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment, H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and the President of the CNE, Alcino Baris, is an investment in the continuing work of the Commission as it fulfills its mandate to serve the citizens of Timor-Leste by ensuring Timor-Leste’s democracy by facilitating free and fair electoral processes.
The Prime Minister noted at the inauguration that quality facilities were an important factor in supporting institutions to achieve their goals and highlighted the importance of the ‘human resources’ of the institution. He encouraged all the CNE staff to continue in their tasks with dedication and with a view to their ongoing professional development.
Spokesperson for the Sixth Constitutional Government, Minister of State Agio Pereira, noted “the inauguration of these two infrastructure projects is a reflection of our continuing progress. The Regional Hospital in Baucau and the main building of the National Electoral Commission in Dili are physical infrastructure projects which both have significant roles to play in enabling the delivery of quality services to the people of Timor-Leste.”ENDS
