VI Constitutional Government is sworn-in
The President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruac, swore-in the VI Constitutional government, led by the Prime-Minister, Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo, in a ceremony that took place on the 16th February, at the “Salão Nobre” of the Presidential Palace in Lahane, Díli.
The structure of the IV Constitutional Government is smaller than that of the previous Government and a new generation of leaders take part in it, who will give continuity to the Strategic Development Plan and the V Government Program.
After all members of the VI Government were sworn-in, the Prime-Minister, Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo, mentioned in his speech that “Being accountable, delivering quality services and being disciplined are not options, but rather sine qua non conditions for serving the Timorese people”.
The Prime-Minister reaffirmed the commitment that the Government he leads has “less than two and a half years, to give form and content to all the commitments made before the people”, giving continuity to the Strategic Development Plan and the former Government Program “focussing on better service delivery and on the quality of works, in a manner that is efficient, effective and accountable”.
The President of the Republic referred the VI Constitutional Government as a “government of continuity” which "has been formed in a climate of stability by means of a consultation process and dialogue ”. Taur Matan Ruak also took the opportunity to thank Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, in his name and in the name of the country, “for his vision, for his political innovation capability and for his desire to extend the obligations and responsibilities of a new Timorese generation to the highest level of State".
Several individualities from Timor-Leste and the international community were present at the swearing-in ceremony, as well as representatives of the diplomatic core and of non-governmental organizations, amongst other distinguished guests.
