  The Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste has received with deep sadness the news of the passing away of the Catalan diplomat Francesc Vendrell, former Deputy Personal Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), deeply involved in the negotiations that led to the popular consultation on August 20th, 1999 and the self-determination of the Timorese people.

  The Government of Timor-Leste extends its deepest condolences to the Government and People of the Republic of Indonesia for the earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale, that struck the Indonesian island of Java, last Monday, November 21st.
