The second edition of the program received a total of 480 applications, of which 330 went on to the interview phase with a panel made up of FLBA advisors and participants from the first edition. After a rigorous selection process, 100 participants were chosen, with priority given to the applications with the highest scores, while ensuring gender balance and representation of the various sectors. The group is made up of 50% women and 50% men, distributed among the following sectors: the public sector (21%), civil society organizations (26%), academia (16%), the private sector (25%), entrepreneurs (9%) and the self-employed (3%).

Participants in the second edition will benefit not only from the training and workshops provided in the program, but also from the experience accumulated by participants in the first edition. They will play an important role as teaching assistants and workshop leaders, as well as preparing the teams for the immersion trips to ASEAN countries and the implementation of international cooperation projects. WhatsApp Image 2025-01-17 at 16.10.03

One of the highlights of the program is the continuity of the action learning projects, with the second edition continuing and expanding the 16 projects started by the first edition. These projects are geared towards the strategic development of Timor-Leste and seek to offer innovative solutions to the country's challenges.

According to the program's impact report, the results of the first edition show a significant contribution to strengthening leadership and the network of cooperation between young leaders, essential factors for the future development of Timor-Leste.

The Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, emphasized at the launch of the first edition that “Timor-Leste's development depends more than ever on our human resources and the empowerment of our human potential. That is why we are investing in the next generation of leaders”.

The Futuru Líder of ASEAN program, funded by the Government of Timor-Leste through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, is an intensive 12-month program designed to empower young leaders with leadership training, immersions in ASEAN countries, action learning projects and career planning.
