Timor-Leste congratulates Australian Prime Minister Elect Tony Abbott
The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Xanana Gusmão, on behalf of the Government and the people of Timor-Leste, wishes to extend warmest regards and congratulations to the Honourable Tony Abbott on his election as Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia.
Prime Minister Gusmão noted “The people of Australia and Timor-Leste enjoy a strong and mature friendship which will continue under the ongoing leadership of Prime Minister Abbott. There will be matters of significance that our Governments will discuss in the interests of our people and I look forward to working together in a spirit of friendship and solidarity.”
In a letter to Mr. Abbott the Prime Minister expressed his confidence “that we will continue to cooperate to secure regional stability and prosperity” and invited the Australian Prime Minister elect to visit Timor-Leste.
The Government of Timor-Leste wishes Prime Minister Abbott and the new Australian Government well in achieving positive outcomes for the Australian people.
