SoSCOM prepares the Operational Plan for Next Year

At a meeting held on the 27th and 28th of July, in Fatuhada, Dili, the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nélio Isaac Sarmento, asked for his staff's collaboration and active participation in preparing and developing the 2014 program for the Secretariat of State for Social Communication (SoSCOM).

The Government representative for Social Communication, gathered advisors, directors and employees from the National Directorate for Dissemination of Information and Radio Community Center, for a constructive debate on next year's activity plan, and reminded everyone that the priority for 2013, to prepare the law for media, has already been achieved.

In 2014, the Secretary of State for Social Communication intends to simoultaneouly launch the Timor-Leste News Agency on the CPLP Summit to be held in July. However, at this meeting, Nélio Isaac Sarmento also pointed out that 2014 will be a crucial year to design the Press Council and the National Training Institute for Journalists.

The meeting included interventions from two special guests: Otélio Ote, a known journalist who outlined a snapshot of the Social Communication history in Timor-Leste, shared his ideas about the future of the sector, and alerted for the need to invest in journalist training; and Salomão Yaquim, National Director for the State Budget and Finance, who prepared an information session on the State Budgeting cycles.

The 2014 Government Programme for Timor-Leste, will be submitted in August.
