MoE promotes dialogue on the Education Joint Action

The Ministry of Education (MoE) held, in late January, at the Dili’s Conventions Centre, a dialogue on the Education Joint Action in Timor-Leste (EJATL), under the subject “Articulation of ideas to improve the quality of Education in Timor-Leste.
The aim of this dialogue was to call for the participation of all intervenients in the education’s sector, to share experiences and good educational practices and to establish a compromise, at a national level, extended to districts, subdistricts and sucos.
According to the Minister of Education, Bendito Freitas, in order to achieve good governance and an efficient use of the available resources, the sector of education needs good service coordination guidelines, in all areas. “I acknowledge that there are no predefined solutions to answer education’s challenges in Timor-Leste, especially if they are not related to our own history, society or culture. In this dialogue, we will analyse and discuss in detail about the differences in teaching quality between public and private schools''.
According to the Vice Prime Minister, Fernando La Sama de Araújo, “the implementation of the Strategic Development Plan foresees that any citizen is entitled to go to school and receiving quality education, acquiring appropriate knowledge that allow him to adopt an healthy and productive lifestyle, and actively participating in the national development process.
“The development of the education’s sector is the key to human resources’ development, namely for future generations, by guaranteeing development’s sustainability in various areas”, highlighted Bendito Freitas.
Also present at the ceremony were the First Lady, Isabel da Costa Ferreira; the Member of Parliament Estanislau da Silva; the Vice Minister for Commerce, Industry and Environment, Abel da Costa Ximenes; representatives of Timor-Leste’s Diplomatic Corps; heads of State institutions; Universities’ Deans; Development Partners from the Ministry of Education and representatives of the directors of public and private schools of the 13 districts.
