Timor-Leste and Japan strengthen their cooperation in the area of institutional capacity building

The Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employment Policy, Ilídio Ximenes da Costa met with the Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, Yoshitaka Hanada, on September 26, 2012, at the Japanese Embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste, with the objective of strengthening the cooperation between Japan and Timor-Leste - in this case with the Secretariat of State for Professional Training and Employment Policy - in the area of ​​institutional capacity building.

Ilídio Ximenes da Costa announced that during the meeting several issues were discussed, such as: the portal for the database and information; technical assistance to SoSPTEP, specifically in the area of the labour market; professional training for young people (namely in the mechanical area and technology, and the mechanism to provide practical training to young people abroad); and the Program for Income Generation  (Income Generation program), for which it was decided that youth capacitation is to be achieved through training aimed at the development of local products, namely through the programs "Small Industries for Youth" and "One Village, One Product".

The Ambassador of Japan said that with this support to the training of young people in Timor-Leste, his Government would hope to reduce unemployment in this country.
