Timor-Leste at the 2012 Expo Yeosu Korea

From 12 May until 12 Aug

Timor-Leste is present at the 2012 Expo Yeosu Korea which runs from May to August in the city of Yeosu in South Korea.
The Expo's central theme is "The Living Ocean and Coasts, Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities".

Timor-Leste’s participation, decided at the meeting of the Council of Ministers in March this year, has the theme "Crystal Waters and White Sands", since the national maritime territory, far from being polluted, maintains a healthy maritime and coastal environment.

The symbol of Timor-Leste’s participation at the 2012 Expo Yeosu Korea is a stylized form of a crocodile. The diagonal position refers to the shape of the island. The circular shapes represent the waves of the Sea (central theme of this exhibit). Formally, the symbol represents the "KAIBAUK" (a traditional Timorese accessory) and the "Surik" (traditional Timorese sword). The colors (red and yellow) belong to the flag of Timor-Leste and the blue represents the color of the ocean.

The organization of Timor-Leste’s participation is the responsibility of the Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Industry, which has the support of the Directorate of Fisheries from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Directorate of Culture from the Ministry of Education, the Secretariat of the State for Environment from the Ministry of Economy and Development and the Ministry of Infrastructure.
