Public Officials Receive Training Certificate for Standardized Tétum

The Government, through the Secretariat of State for the Council of Ministers and the National Institute of Linguistics, delivered the certificates of the Standardized Tétum Language Training Course to 29 public officials, on December 22, 2011, at the Government Palace in Díli.

The public officials work in the Media/Communication area in several ministries and secretariats of State.

The Director-General of the National Institute of Linguistics, Dr. Benjamin de Araújo e Corte-Real, said that "the National Institute of Linguistics has obtained accreditation through Government Decree No 1/2004 of April, with the aim of developing Tétum according to the rules already adopted. I recommend to all employees / trainees who received the certificate to learn more so they can properly write in Tétum".

The President of the Civil Service Commission, Libório Pereira said he was honored to participate in the graduation ceremony of the future public administration leaders for the dissemination of the activities of the institution to the public. Libório Pereira highlighted that dissemination of information to the community should be done with responsibility so as to be properly understood. "I'm also learning standardized Tétum while I learn Portuguese", said the President of the Civil Service Commission.

For the Vice Prime Minister Coordinator of Social Affairs, José Luís Guterres, the initiative of the National Institute of Linguistics and the Secretariat of State for the Council of Ministers is very important to elevate the knowledge of Tétum of the employees and develop "the Tétum language that is our mother tongue, an integral part of the national identity of Timor-Leste, and that our Constitution provides as an Official Language".

Also present at the ceremony were the Secretary of State for the Council of Ministers, Ágio Pereira, and directors of the departments in which the graduates work.
