Council of Ministers Meeting from December 28, 2011

The Council of Ministers met this Wednesday, December 28, 2011, in the Council of Ministers Meeting Room, at the Government Palace, in Díli and approved:

1. Third amendment to the Electoral Law for the National Parliament and the Electoral Law for the President of the Republic

This change, in the form of a law proposal, is intended to introduce final provisions clarifying that the exercise of the voting rights of the Timorese living abroad shall not apply to the elections to be held in 2012.

The Council of Ministers also analyzed:

1. Update on the preparations for the 2012 elections

Following the meeting of the Council of Ministers on December 21, in which the Government heard an update on the progress in the preparations for the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections, one week later, the Secretary of State for Administrative Reform, Florindo Pereira, along with the Director-General of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), Tomás Cabral, and elements of the Timor-Leste National Police of (PNTL) Command, made a presentation on the work that is being developed to ensure the success of the two election next year. The National Elections Commission (CNE) also participated in the meeting.

The Council of Ministers took note of the timing of the electoral operations for the Presidential election, prepared by STAE, which proved to be in accordance with the relevant electoral law and able to be published according to the law.

In regards to the preparation of the logistics operations of the electoral process, the Council of Ministers delivered to STAE all the comments, suggestions and recommendations it deemed appropriate.
