Timor-Leste won gold and bronze in the Paralympics Games in Athens

Timor-Leste won three gold medals and one bronze medal at the Paralympics Games held in Athens, Greece, from June 25 to July 4.

185 countries participated in this event, where 22 sports were in competition. Timor-Leste participated in only three sports: football, athletics and throwing.

"I would like to congratulate the special needs athletes, who represented our country, and have raised the name of Timor-Leste," said the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Miguel Manetelo.

In the athletics modality of long jump, Pacheco Carlito da Silva won the gold medal, surpassing 3.52 meters; Virgínia Magno Alves also brought a gold medal in the 200 meters race, reaching the finishing line in 18.45 minutes; Joana, in the throwing competition, earned a third gold medal whilst the bronze medal was won again by Pacheco Carlito da Silva, in the 100-meter race, cutting the finishing line at 16.98 minutes.
