Government of Timor-Leste Congratulates Vietnam on the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day

The Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, has sent a message of congratulations to his counterpart from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

“On behalf of the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, I convey our sincere congratulations to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on this historic occasion,” said the Head of Government in the letter sent on April 30th.

In his message, Xanana Gusmão stressed that “this milestone is a profound moment of national pride for Vietnam and a testament to the extraordinary courage, resilience and determination of the Vietnamese people in their quest for independence, unity and peace.” He added that “the reunification of Vietnam has since laid the foundations for remarkable progress, development and international leadership.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted the “strong relationship of trust and friendship” between Timor-Leste and Vietnam, valuing “the bonds of solidarity built between the two countries” and expressed the Timorese government's desire “to strengthen this cooperation in the future”.

Marking “this milestone anniversary”, Xanana Gusmão reiterated Timor-Leste's “ongoing friendship and support” and looked forward to “continuing to work together to promote peace, development and prosperity in our region and beyond”. END
