IV Book Fair of Díli
Jointly organized between the Ministry of Education of Timor-Leste and the Portuguese embassy, the IV Book Fair in Dili will have around a thousand books for sale.
The Agenda for the 5 days of the fair is the following:
15th September
9 am – Opening to the public
5 pm – Official opening by His Excellency the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta
Speech by the Minister of Education of Timor-Leste, introduced by the Portuguese Ambassador
5:30 pm – Presentation of “The History of Timor-Leste” by Frederic Durand
Speech by the author, introduced by the French Ambassador
6 pm – Launch of the Sapo Timor-Leste Portal
Speech by the Directo of Sapo Portugal, Mrs Inês Condeço, introduced by the Timor Telecom Interim Director, Manuel Capitão Amaro
6:30 pm – Drinks and Port of Honour
6:45 pm – Visit to the fair
16th September – “Joana Ruas” Day
9 am - Opening
11 am - Autograph signing session and meet with the press
1:30 to 5:30 pm – Art, culture, languages and sport Workshops for children, organized by the Porto Superior School of Education group
5 pm – Presentation, by the author, of the books “The Battle of Tears” and “Timorese Chronicles” by Joana Ruas, with commentaries from Manuel Tilman and Roque Rodrigues
7 pm – Movie Session
17th September
9 am – opening
11 am – Presentation of the books “’Belos’ country, hints for the comprehension of Timor-Leste” by Luis Filipe Thomaz and “Gentile from Timor” by Armando Pinto Correia
1:30 to 5:30 pm – Art, culture, languages and sport Workshops for children, organized by the Porto Superior School of Education group
5 pm – Presentation of the books of the day “Pilgrimage of Enmanuel de Jhesus” by Pedro Rosa Mendes, “The Island of Darkness” by José Rodrigues dos Santos” and “Pinto Brás’s Nona” by Luís Filipe Thomaz
7 pm – Movie Session
18th September – Day of Brazilian Books and Culture
9 am – Opening
10 am – Cultural presentation
11 am – Children’s Movie Session: “A turma do Pererê”
1:30 to 5:00 pm – Children’s Art, Workshops, organized by the Brasilian Cooperation with the support of teachers from the Porto Superior School of Education.
7 pm – Film “Além Mar” for the general public
19th September – Children’s book day
9 am - opening
11 am – Book launch “The Angel of Timor” by Sophia de Mello Breyner with Graça Morais ilustrations, presented by the translator, João Paulo Esperança
1:30 to 5:30 pm – Art, culture, languages and sport Workshops for children, organized by the Porto Superior School of Education group
4 pm – Presentation of the Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s book “The Little Prince”, presented by the translator João Paulo Esperança
4:30 pm – Theatrical play, inspired on “The Little Prince” by a Children Theatre Group
6 pm – Presentation of Sophia de Mello Breyner’s book “Fairy Oriana”, presented by the translator João Paulo Esperança
7 pm – Adaptation of the play “Antígona” by Sofocles, presented by the UNTL Law Course Theatre Group, directed by Ms. Rute Miranda.
