Government expresses solidarity with Japan after the Noto Peninsula earthquake
With deep regret, the 9th Constitutional Government expresses its solidarity with the People and Government of Japan following the 7.6 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale that struck the Noto peninsula in Ishikawa, Japan, on Monday, January 1st, 2024.
The earthquake that hit the country caused buildings to collapse and roads to be destroyed, resulting in the deaths of at least 84 people, more than 300 injured, and hundreds missing following the earthquake and the hundreds of aftershocks that followed. Several communities are still without water and electricity. Rescue teams continue to search for survivors.
Minister Agio Pereira, the 9th Constitutional Government Spokesperson, offered his “sincere condolences to the People and Government of Japan” and saluted “all those who continue to be determined in the search for survivors and in supporting the populations affected by this catastrophe”. END
