In the scope of the commemoration of the Timor-Leste Restoration of Independence Day, on the 20th May, the Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Industry (MTCI) organized a National Fair situated in the Democracy Camp from 15th to 21st of May, in collaboration with the Chinese Timor Oan Community Commercial Association (ACCCTO).

It is an event that serves, not only for the entertainment of the Díli community but also for the promotion of local produce developed by Timorese farmers.

“Another objective of the Fair to take into account is the presentation of the local produce to the public and subsequently to the world” stated Lay Sio, the ACCCTO representative.

The Vice-Prime-Minister for Social Issues, José Luis Guterres, considered the event as important since it presents Timor-Leste agricultural produce to the world: “The incentive policy to local productivity is important. To improve our production so that, in the future, when tourism is more developed, foreigners, in a big scale, can acquire products produced by the people” ensured José Luis Guterres.

Besides the local handicraft products, Timor-Leste can also explore the products for export.

The President of the Organizing Commission, Fernando Hi da Silva, in his intervention, considered the 20th of May Fair as a permanent program that MTCI executes annually to commemorate the Restoration of Independence Day, going on its eighth commemoration. “Use National Products to develop Wellbeing” was the theme chosen by the MTCI, for this year.

“The objective consists in the promotion and valuation of the local products in order to establish a connection between the internal investment and the external investment, promoting the sectors of Tourism, Commerce and Industry and the rest of the relevant sectors”, defended Fernando Hi da Silva, that also assumes the position as National Director of the Domestic Commerce.
