The Government of Timor-Leste extends condolences for the loss of Sabino Soares “Guntur”
It was with deep sadness and dismay that the Government of Timor-Leste learn of the death of Sabino Soares “Guntur”, Member of the National Parliament and Vice-Presidente of the National Political Commission of the Popular Liberation Party (PLP), on January 23rd 2021, at the Guido Valadares Hospital, in Dili, at the age of 45.
Sabino Soares “Guntur” was born on July 8th, 1975, in Lelalai, at the Administrative Post of Quelicai, in Baucau Municipality.
Founding member of the PLP, he assumed, from June 2018, functions as Member of the National Parliament, on the 5th Legislative term, and member of the Committee on Education, Youth, Culture and Citizenship (Committee G).
“Guntur” played an important role on the Clandestine Front, during the Struggle for National Liberation, having been repeatedly victim of imprisonment and torture during this period.
The Government Spokesperson, the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, on behalf of the Council of Ministers and the entire Government, extends his deepest condolences to the family and friends of the esteemed “Guntur” and stated that “we mourn his death, but we remember and honour his legacy of a life of unconditional dedication to the country and the Timorese”.
