The 5th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries

This event, hereinafter referred to as “Forum Macao” was created in October 2003 and was an initiative of the Central Government of China, in coordination with seven Portuguese speaking countries, namely Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and Timor-Leste. It is important to highlight the cooperation of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Portuguese acronym RAEM).
The Plans and Action for Economic and Trade Cooperation, which defined the areas of inter-governmental cooperation and contributed actively for greater cooperation in the areas of economy, trade and investment, were approved since the start of this event.

From Timor-Leste, the Minister of State, Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Estanislau da Silva, will be representing the Prime Minister Rui Maria de Araújo. The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Environment, Constâncio da Conceição Pinto, the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications, Gastão de Sousa and the Senior Advisor to the Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment, Pedro Lay, will also be part of the delegation.

The Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, the Prime Minister of Mozambique, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, Baciro Djá, and the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva also attended Forum Macau.

The Forum Macao will be preceded by the Meeting of Focal Points, which will take place on October 7th.

Representatives of the Department of External Aid; representatives of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Foreign Investment, representatives of the Department of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs; representatives of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region; the Ambassadors and Focal Points from seven Portuguese-speaking countries and delegates attached to the Permanent Secretariat will attend the Focal Points Meeting.

The Action Plan for Economic and Trade Cooperation and the Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of Cooperation of the Productive Capacity will be discussed and approved in the Meeting of Focal Points.

October 11th will be remembered by the signing of the Action Plan and the Memorandum of Understanding above mentioned.

On October 10th, the Minister of State, Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Estanislau da Silva, will also have a courtesy meeting with the Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau, Baciro Djá.
