International Conference for celebrating the 20th anniversary of the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to illustrious Timorese

October 11th marks the 20th anniversary of the announcement of the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Bishop Carlos Ximenes Belo and to the former member of the Resistance and former President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta.
As part of this celebration, an International Conference will be held in Dili on the subject “Citizenship, peace and well-being: the importance of poverty reduction to peacebuilding.”
In addition to the two Timorese winners, Kailash Satyarthi, 2015 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Brian Schmidt, 2011 Nobel Prize winner for Physics, Finn Erling Kydland, 2004 Nobel Prize winner for Economics, Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner and Richard John Roberts, 1993 Nobel Prize winner for Medicine also took part in this conference.
The former President of the Republic of Mozambique, Joaquim Alberto Chissano, the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, Adama Dieng, the Lutheran Bishop Emeritus of Oslo, Reverend Gunnar Johan Stålsett, among others, also attended this event.
Several activities will be held under this event at various sites throughout Dili, namely the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Presidential Palace, Hotel Novo Turismo, Hotel Timor Plaza, Hotel Timor, Timor Lorosa’e National University (UNTL), the Peace University (UNPAZ), the Dili Institute of Technology and INFORDEPE.
