Prime Minister to advance Government Agenda in Brussels & USA

The Head of Government is soon to leave Timor-Leste to engage in a series of meetings with political decision makers and influencers in Brussels, Washington and New York. These meetings aim to improve international cooperation and to share the Government’s position on matters of national interest.

The Prime Minister leaves Dili on Tuesday the 14th of June for Brussels where he is set to participate in the leading forum in Europe for issues of international development and cooperation, the European Development Days. He will join the President of the Central African Republic, the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Swedish Minister of International Development on a panel discussing aid effectiveness. Prime Minister Araújo will also deliver a keynote address highlighting the lessons learned in Timor-Leste’s development journey and explaining progress made in implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Bilateral meetings will be held with national leaders in the sidelines of the forum.

The Prime Minister will also visit the United States, principally Washington DC and New York, where he will have meetings and forums to address and promote the interests of Timor-Leste.

Spokesperson, Minister of State Agio Pereira noted “The Government is committed to assisting improvement in international development cooperation and remains a champion of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. We also realize the need for international support and understanding in our efforts to achieve the delimitation of our maritime boundaries. For these three reasons the trip of the Prime Minister is a valuable activity being undertaken at a strategic time.”

The Prime Minister returns to Dili on the 2nd of July.
