Condolences for those lost in the Sabah Earthquake
The Government of Timor-Leste offers its condolences to near neighbours Malaysia and Singapore after the loss of life caused by an earthquake on Friday which triggered massive landslides on Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia’s Sabah State.
Malaysian authorities confirmed on Sunday that 16 fatalities had been recorded. At this point most of those who lost their lives have been identified as nationals of Malaysia and Singapore. Six Singapore primary school children and their teacher are among those confirmed lost. Students from Tanjong Katong Primary School were climbing the peak as a part of a school excursion on Friday.
Timor-Leste stands in solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy.
Spokesperson for the Government of Timor-Leste, Minister of State Agio Pereira noted, “our thoughts are with all those grieving, particularly those families who have lost their children in this disaster.”
