Prime Minister discharged from Hospital

The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, H.E. Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo, was discharged from Singapore’s National University Hospital yesterday and is now staying at a hotel until his return home to Díli on Saturday. The Prime Minister has recovered well and will have his last check up on Friday before his departure.

Prime Minister met, this morning, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, K. Shanmugam to thank the hospitality and the support provided during the treatment, and express solidarity and concern of Timor-Leste regarding the health status of first Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew.

During his stay at the National University Hospital of Singapore the Prime Minister, a medical doctor, met with the hospital's management team to learn more about how the healthcare sector in Singapore functions and the facilities that are provided to its people. Timor-Leste and the National University Hospital of Singapore have been collaborating in the area of healthcare for the past two years and during the meeting the Prime Minister discussed possibilities for future cooperation with Timor-Leste.

He also thanked the team at the hospital for their undivided attention in attending to him.

The Prime Minister also visited a Timorese patient who is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Spokesperson for the Sixth Constitutional Government, Minister of State Agio Pereira noted “the Government and people of Timor-Leste will be very glad to have our Prime Minister return home on Saturday.” He expressed thanks “to all who have assisted over the past week including the doctors and staff of the Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares in Timor-Leste, the medical team at the National University Hospital of Singapore and the Embassy staff in Singapore.”
