Ministry of Public Works asks for guarantee of roads quality
In the last week of March, the General Director for Public Works, José Piedade, and the National Director for Roads, Bridges and Flood Control, Rui Hernâni, from the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), organized a meeting to assess rehabilitation works of the roads in Díli, performed by national companies.
According to Rui Hernâni, the meeting aimed to strengthen the work and coordination relationship between the companies and Public Works, to appoint a supervisor for the ten stretches of road in Dili, which are in rehabilitation and to appoint a company responsible for each section in order to facilitate coordination with the MoPW.
"I ask the companies to work in accordance with the methods, to follow the designs of the projects of public works and according to the technical standards of good quality," said Rui Hernâni.
The Head of Department for Laboratory and Research, Saturnino Gomes, reported that a laboratory has been created to monitor and study this work and requires companies to do the constructions obeying lab results, as for example in the case of tar.
The representative of the companies, the director of the company “Tinolina”, Agostinho Gomes, said the works are urgent and so they are ready to coordinate with Public Works, and with all departments to ensure the quality of the work.
There are ten sections of road which are in rehabilitation in Dili in order to improve the conditions for two major events that will take place this year: the celebration of the Day of Restoration of Independence, May 20, and the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) in July.
