The Government and UNDP sign a cost-sharing Agreement for the support to the Administrative Pre-Deconcentration costs

On March 14, in the conference room of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of State and of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, representing the Government of Timor-Leste, and the Resident Representative of the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), Knut Ostby, signed an Agreement to share costs to support the Administrative Pre-Deconcentration structure.

According to this Agreement, the Government will contribute $US 750,000, in order to maintain the policy and program development, which has been supported by the UNDP, along with the Ministry of State Administration, the Secretariat of State of Administrative Decentralization and the Secretariat of State of Institutional Strengthening.

According to their respective geographic areas of intervention, the Administrative Pre-Deconcentration structures should assure the implementation of the Government administrative deconcentration program, and promote the coordinated actions by all decentralized state services, and provide technical support to all activities performed by the traditional community leaders and by non-governmental organizations.

The UNDP will support the training of District Managers, District Managers Secretaries, District Directors and Post Administrators, responsible for operationalizing the decentralization plan.

The Secretary of State for Institutional Strengthening, Francisco Soares, the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nélio Isaac Sarmento, the General Director of the Secretariat of State of Administrative Decentralization, Abílio Caetano, and the UNDP Timor-Leste Director, Noura Hamladji., were also present at the signing of this Agreement.
