MCIE signs agreement with NUSC for the establishment of the People’s Shop
The Minister for Commerce, Industry and Environment, António da Conceição, on January 29th, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Union of Small Companies (NUSC), at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Environment (MCIE) for the establishment of the People’s Shop in 65 subdistricts, across the whole national territory.
The Minister António da Conceição made known that “this program is already covered by the General State Budget for 2014. This is just an intermediate intervention, in order to control prices of staple products, considering the economic development of the country, by guaranteeing they are accessible to everyone”.
The People’s Shop will be one of the partners of the Government in the commercial intervention program, which will deal with emergency situations, such as the lack of rice or other staple products, should they occur.
The President of NUSC, Francisco da Costa Cabral, assured that “NUSC is ready to cooperate with the Government in establishing this program. The staple products which will be sold at the People’s Shop are rice, sugar, kitchen oil, seasoning, vegetables, milk, eggs and flour”.
