The Government promotes products from the Bamboo Center
On October 31st, at the Conference Hall of the Secretariat of State for the Support and Promotion of the Private Sector (SoSSPPS) in Dili, the Minister for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Alfredo Pires, and the State Secretary for the Support and Promotion of the Private Sector, Veneranda Lemos, signed a Protocol for the acquisition of furniture from the Bamboo Center of Timor-Leste,
Following the signature, the Minister for Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced that the acquisition of furniture fits the diversification policy to promote the bamboo industry in Timor-Leste". In this way, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is able to contribute to the development of other sectors. This is because, in the future, our oil resources will run out. It will take some time, but this is a certainty: our oil resources will run out. We know bamboo is a material of good quality, sturdy and inexpensive, so it represents a good investment”, said Alfredo Pires.
Veneranda Lemos thanked the Minister Alfredo Pires for this initiative and requested that all Timorese (namely entrepreneurs and the Government), also consider using national products, so that the private sector in Timor-Leste may be empowered and strengthened.
The Director of the Bamboo Center of Timor-Leste, Sabino Rua, was very pleased with "this option that the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources made, to use this material of national origin, in it's office equipment”. This initiative, which contributes to the development of the national economy, not only benefits the Bamboo Center, but also benefits the agriculture community, in selling the bamboo in the interior of the country. Presently, the Bamboo Center has 59 workers.
