SEVTPE organizes a workshop on health, hygiene and safety at work
On October 2nd and 3rd , the Secretariat of State for Vocational Training Policy and Employment (SEVTPE), in coordination with the International Labour Organization (ILO), organized a workshop, about health, hygiene and safety at work, which was attended by representatives from the workers and employers.
The General-Inspector for Labour, Aniceto Leto Soro, opened the workshop, by emphasizing the importance that the implementation of safe practices represents in the workplace, and the need for close collaboration between employers and the workers, to implement a policy that may prevent accidents, especially in hazardous areas such as construction, in all the districts in Timor-Leste.
The new Labour Law, which was approved by the National Parliament last year, already follows the provisions of the Constitution, by containing a set of general provisions on health, hygiene and safety at work, and the right for all workers to perform their work in conditions of health, hygiene and safety.
In order to develop a practical system for the protection of workers and a regulatory set of provisions in the Labour Law, the SEVTPE is already developing legislation in this area, so that the same may be subsequently discussed with the social partners.
