The Prime-Minister’s Cabinet organized a workshop, on the subject of “Dissemination of the Law and the Role of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice (OHRJ)”, for the staff of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet and other invited staff from the Ministry of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The workshop took place in the hall of the Auditorium of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, during three days, from August 27th to August 29th, with the aim of introducing the staff to the duties and rights of each one of these institutions (ACC, CSC and OHRJ) in the promotion of good governance.

Agio Pereira, Minister of State and of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, as Acting Prime Minister, said, at the beginning of the meeting, that “the Prime Minister himself has told the members of Government several times that it is essential to know the Law. This is because, by not knowing the rules, they might risk having to answer the courts”.

The Acting Prime Minister highlighted that “these three institutions – ACC, CSC and OHRJ – are important since they perform a “Checks and balances” analysis of the State’s activity with the ultimate goal of promoting democracy. The ACC is a legal agency of the State – where the State can’t reach, the ACC can. The CSC is like a roof to the entire Civil Service, and help is requested from the ACC and OHRJ to reinforce these processes”.

The Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Manuel Bucar, said he was pleased with the opportunity to disseminate information on the Anti-Corruption Commission to these staff. “It is important that the staff know and understand the role of the ACC. The ACC exists since 2010, and has two important missions: prevention of corruption and criminal investigation”, explained the Deputy Commissioner Manuel Bucar.
