Xanana Gusmão receives visit from Tony Blair
The Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, received a visit of the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair, and his entourage, on Thursday, August 15, in the Hall of the Ministry of Finance, in Díli.
The meeting lasted about an hour and was also attended by the Minister and Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Vice-Minister of Finance, the Minister of Education, the Minister of Agriculture, the Secretary of State for Institutional Strengthening and the Ambassador of Timor-Leste in the UK.
The visit aimed at sharing experiences about the administration system of Timor-Leste's Government and human resources management, among others.
José Luís Guterres recalled the experience and success that Tony Blair was able to achieve for many years in English governance and administration and mentioned that the future system of governance and administration of Timor-Leste was one of the issues discussed between Tony Blair and Xanana Gusmão.
According to Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, the former leader of the British Government has made himself available to help Timor-Leste in establishing an efficient, transparent and modern administration system.
Tony Blair's commitment to Timor-Leste was in the area of good governance, although he also mentioned support for the country to become a member of ASEAN, thus opening itself to other countries in terms of cooperation for its development.
