The Secretariat of State for the Promotion of Equality (SSPE), through the use of Public Transfer funds, provided support in the economic area to 70 groups of women. These groups of women originate from all 13 districts, having each one received between USD 1.500,00 and USD 3.000,00. The event took place on July 18th, at the SSPE building.

Gregório Guterres, representative of the Ministry of Finance, referred that “this amount should be used according to the plan described in the proposal, and a report should therefore be presented containing information on the bank statement. All the group activities will be monitored by us.”

João Lino, from the Department of Monitoring and Evaluation, and SSPE representative, reminded that “the Secretariat of State for the Promotion of Equality organizes this program since 2008, with a budget coming from Public Transfers, thus aiming to promote gender equality in the economic sector by developing women’s economic independence. Through this program, women, as well as men, may develop activities that will allow them to increase economic capacity, thus contributing to the progress of the country.

Taking into account that some past experiences showed some discrepancies in the groups’ proposals, João Lino requests that “previous errors must be avoided”.
