The Timor-Leste's Legal Profession Management and Discipline Council signs a cooperation agreement with the Bar Association from Cabo Verde
On May 26th, the Ministry of Justice, represented by the President of the Legal Profession Management and Discipline Council (LPMDC), Nelinho Vital and the President of the Bar Association of Cabo Verde (BACV), Helena Maurício dos Santos, signed a cooperation agreement, in the city of Praia, Cabo Verde.
Following the signature, Nelinho Vital said, "this agreement is intended to strengthen the cooperation bond between the law institutions in both countries. This is particularly important for the development of the Legal Profession Management and Discipline Council, which is the embryo of the future Bar Association in Timor-Leste”.
The President of the Legal Profession Management and Discipline Council also added that "according to this agreement, the Bar Association of Cabo Verde will be sending information requested by the LPMDC, which includes the names of lawyers from Cabo Verde, who may want to practice advocacy in Timor-Leste, in accordance with Law N.o11/2008, which was amended by Law No. 1/2013, and allows foreign lawyers to practice in Timor-Leste”.
Leida Helena Maurício stressed that "the agreement will be instrumental to the establishment of good cooperation between BACV and the LPMDC. The Bar Association of Cape Verde is available to support the Legal Profession Management and Discipline Council of Timor-Leste, and being professionally worthy (Officium Nobile), we shall organize ourselves, at the Bar Association, to provide the best support, in the defence of human rights, justice and democracy".
