Administrative Decentralisation and Local Government Project Disseminated in Viqueque
Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão was in Viqueque district on 14 and 15 May, 2013 to disseminate the Administrative Decentralisation and Local Government Project. Viqueque district was the ninth district to be visited.
”By the time the Viqueque district municipality is established its inhabitants will have known its objective, so that they themselves may ensure the management of the resources and potentialities for the development of the district and for the sustainability and subsistence of its people. And it is this reason that brought us here today, the group of intellectuals, the private sector, the veterans, the women’s organisations, the non-governmental organisations and the youth. I urge you to cooperate with the district Administrator, with the Installation Committee, and with the community leaders in identifying the potentialities, but also the difficulties you are facing here and discuss the plan and the preparation for installing the municipality with responsibility and competence”, the Prime Minister said.
Xanana Gusmão stressed that “the contribution of all entities as a necessary factor for finding a consensus of opinions on the implementation of administrative decentralisation and local government, so as to ensure a prosperous future for all the children. The importance of implementing this project lies on the initiative and in the dialogue which the citizens of Viqueque themselves may have”.
