Timor-Leste takes part in meeting on EITI in Papua New-Guinea
The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Timor-Leste, Alfredo Pires, took part in the meeting on Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which took place from 22 to 24 April in Alotau, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea.
In his intervention, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Timor-Leste spoke of the policy and programme of Timor-Leste on the transparent management of the narural resources. In accordance with the Minister, the authorities of Papua New Guinea highly appreciated the development of Timor-Leste and requested our Government to continue to share experiences on the subject matter.
Merício Akara, representing Timor-Leste’s civil society in the meeting, explained the manner in which the Timorese civil society has participated and got involved in the implementation of the EITI programme.
In attendance in the meeting were: the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Authority of Papua New Guinea, the British High Commission, USAID, the World Bank, and the Civil Society.
