On 25 April, 2013 the Secretary of State for Water, Sanitation and Urban Development, Elias Pereira Moniz, together with the European Union and UNICEF, inaugurated the drinking water supply system project at Poeana village, suco Humboe, Ermera sub-district, Ermera district.

Elias Pereira Moniz congratulated the Poeana community who volunteered to help build the drinking water supply system project in their community. “Absence of drinking water means absence of life. In order to have drinking water, there must be good sanitation. Sanitation without quality produces bad quality water and this has a negative impact on the quality of life. Thus, the programme for implementing drinking water and sanitation, as well as the hygiene, are very important for our lives”.

The UNICEF Representative in Timor-Leste, Hogwei Gao, asked the community to take good care of the recently installed drinking water system.

On the same occasion the Ambassador of the European Union in Timor-Leste, Sylvie Tabesse, reiterated the fact that the European Union will continue to provide support to the community in the urban areas.

The Chief of Humboe suco, Pedro Exposto Salsinha, showed his satisfaction over the assistance of the European Union and UNICEF, which makes it possible for the community to have access to drinking water.
