Minister of Public Works visits Oe-Cusse Ambeno District

The Minister of Public Works, Gastão de Sousa, accompanied by the National Director of Roads, Bridges and Floods Control, Rui Hernâni, and by the National Director of the Institute of Equipment Management (IGE in the Portuguese acronym), Ega Lemos, conducted a visit to Oe-Cusse Ambeno district on 6 April 2013. The objective of the visit was to closely observe the conditions of the agencies of the Ministry of Public Works, notably the Water and Sanitation Service (SAS), the Electricity of Timor-Leste (EDTL) and the Institute of Equipment Management (IGE) in Oe-Cusse Ambeno district.
In addition to that, they also had the opportunity to observe the projects already being executed as well as those to be executed in the future, notably the projects pertaining to the Infrastructure Fund.
During the visit, the Minister and his delegation also had a meeting with the Regional Chief of the Ministry of Public Works and the functionaries of EDTL, SAS and IGE in order to listen to the challenges faced by them.
After listening the concerns presented by some agencies of the Ministry of Public Works, Minister Gastão de Sousa stated the following: “we have taken your concerns into due consideration, but there is a need to be patient, nobody can do everything at the same time and within one year”.
“The regional service will be suppressed, the power to monitor and supervise the projects will be delegated to the district managers. We are awaiting approval of the structure of the General Directorate in order to be able to appoint and assign personnel so that they may work in an efficient and effective manner”, the Minister stated.
After this meeting, the minister of Public Works, the National Director of Roads, Bridges and Flood Control, and the Regional Chief for Oe-Cusse Ambeno also visited Tono river in Lifau.
