MoPW signs contract “Package-R3” with ADB

On 24 April, 2013 the Ministry of Public Works signed a contract with the Asian Development Bank on project “Package-R3” relating to the rehabilitation of the road from Dili to Liquiçá.
The Minister of Public Works, Gastão de Sousa, stated that “the signing of this contract has a major significance because this project marks the beginning of the work, the financing of which originates from the first loan taken by Timor-Leste for national development”.
The “Package-R3” contemplates an amount of over 20 million American dollars and is intended to rehabilitate the Dili-Liquiçá road, covering a distance of 29 kilometres. The Minister also said that, in addition to this project, ADB already guaranteed its support to the Government of Timor-Leste for the rehabilitation of the road linking Liquiçá to Mota-ain, through a cooperation to finance national roads.
“Rehabilitation will observe international standards and thus, in 2017, when both projects are finalised, we will enjoy a road extends from Dili to Mota-ain that is in good condition, a fact that will have a positive impact on national development”, Minister Gastão de Sousa informed.
The representative of the Spanish construction company chosen for the contract, San José, S.A., stated that “this first project will be executed in 640 days to be counted from mid-2013, which means that the project will be completed by the second quarter of 2015”.
