On 22 March, 2013 the Government of Timor-Leste as represented by the Director-General of  State Finance, António Freitas, and by the National Director for Management of State Property, Evangelina Guterres, received in Balide more property donated by UNMIT. The latter was represented by Stephen Owen.

On that occasion, the representative of UNMIT handed over a set of goods that included 30 vehicles as well as the vehicle maintenance workshop and associated equipment plus over 200 thousand spare parts.

On behalf of the Government, António Freitas thanked UNMIT for all the donations being made and said that the Balide vehicle workshop will be used initially as a pilot-project to ensure maintenance to the Government vehicles. In future, the services offered by such workshop will be extended to the vehicles of all the ministries.

The Director-General of State Finance stated that the vehicles now donated by UNMIT have on average 3 to 6 years of use, but are still in good operating conditions, and the UNMIT also expects to donate telecommunications material as well as three warehouses located in Fomento area.

In accordance with Evangelina Guterres, additional 100 and 120 vehicles will be donated to the Government on 27 March and 3 April 2013, respectively.

In accordance with the plan of the Government, the vehicles will be distributed to the ministries and to civil society organisations.
