MAF conducts second salmon fishing

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF), through Minister Mariano Assanami Sabino, invited the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, for the second round of salmon fishing to take place in Metinaro, Dili, on 23 February, through Meti Murak Ltd.

The Head of State commended the work of this company and expressed his conviction that such an activity will promote the reduction of imports of fish, thereby also contributing to increase income in the interior of the country. According to Matan Ruak, such activities brings benefits to the citizens for consumption of fish assists in fighting malnutrition which affects the community, particularly the children in Timor-Leste.

Mariano Assanami Sabino stated that the Government has a plan to assist all companies that share this kind of initiative of creating greenhouses and in which the Government seeks to develop fish farming, cultivating species of high value in the international market.

The Director of Meti Murak Ltd, Amaro Ximenes, guaranteed the intention of the company to contribute to the development of this activity in accordance with the results obtained.

Present at the ceremony were the First Lady, Isabel Ferreira; the Vice Prime Minister, Fernando La Sama de Araújo; the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Mariano Assanami Sabino, his Vice Minister, Marcos da Cruz; members of the National Parliament, journalists and the community residing in Metinaro.
